Computer tables can have the following designs:
Direct (linear) - the most traditional computer desk, almost the same as a desk. Such tables can be placed in any part of the room - both against the walls and in the middle. True, linear models can not boast of an unusual design and always have sharp corners.

L-shaped (angular) - designed to be placed in the corner of the room. Due to the rational use of the corner space, such models are spacious and compact at the same time, which makes the L-shaped computer tables an ideal option for small rooms. Unfortunately, nowhere, except for the corners, can such a table be placed, and in the corners it can be a bit dark.

U-shaped - has additional work surfaces on the sides, which makes it comfortable, suitable for long work on a PC and as capacious as possible. If you have to place not only a computer on the table, but also other office equipment, writing instruments, folders, etc., choose a U-shaped model: everything will fit! However, such a table will occupy a lot of space.

Important: all types of computer desks can be made in both left-handed and right-handed versions to suit both right-handed and left-handed people.
The frame of a computer table is usually made of wood, chipboard or steel, but countertops are sometimes made of glass and other materials.
Wood is a classic material for office furniture. Differs in environmental friendliness, durability and durability, beauty. It’s nice to touch wooden furniture. However, it is expensive and often bulky and heavy.
Particleboard looks like wood, being much cheaper. Outside this material, for the sake of protection against water and mechanical damage, is provided with a protective polymer or melamine coating or glued with veneer. The high demand for products made of particleboard panels is explained by their affordable price and the variety of colors of countertops.
However, a wet or damaged chipboard table quickly swells, deforms, and loses its appearance, and the coating may crack or swell. Particleboard is not durable, so it is extremely undesirable to often assemble and disassemble tables made from it. Toxicity is even more unpleasant for such a chipboard property - this wood substitute contains formaldehydes.
Important: when choosing a computer desk, be sure to ask what environmental class it belongs to. These classes are marked with the letters E1, E2 and E3, the most secure are E1 and E0. Make sure that the back edges of the table made of chipboard are also protected by a coating (some cheap models lack it), and the plate thickness reaches at least 17 mm.

MDF is stronger than chipboard and is environmentally safer, but more expensive.
Glass as a material for a computer table is a stylish and elegant solution that gives the interior modernity and airiness. The glass top cannot be scratched, it is eco-friendly and easy to clean. The disadvantages of glass tables include their fragility (after all, glass breaks, unlike wood, so for apartments where there are small children, it is better to choose furniture from some other material), a cold surface and quick pollution - fingerprints are visible on the glass fingers and even small specks of dust, specks, so you will have to constantly wipe such a computer desk.
Important: choose glass computer tables with tabletop thicknesses from 10 mm and above.
Metal is even more durable than wood, but unpleasant to the touch - its surface always remains cold. Therefore, only the frame of the table is made metal, and the tabletop is made of other materials - glass, wood, etc. Usually, aluminum and stainless steel are used for computer tables.
For the manufacture of computer tables, other materials are used in small quantities: plastic for legs, PVC tape for gluing edges, etc.
For offices and workrooms that gravitate towards rigor and solidity, computer tables made of glass and metal are chosen. Furniture made of MDF and particleboard is more democratic - it can be used to furnish both an office and an apartment.
When planning the arrangement of furniture to work for a PC, do not forget about the armchair and bedside table (if you intend to purchase it, too). There should be enough free space for all these home decoration. To select the size of the countertop, measure the dimensions of your system unit and peripheral devices that will stand on the table.
Important: for small rooms it is better to choose computer tables with a compact worktop and a large number of shelves and niches for office equipment and other things. And if the room is spacious enough, the table can be increased not vertically, but in length and width due to pedestals and additional countertops.
How to choose a computer desk for a small room
Typical computer tables usually have a length of 90 cm, usually 110–140 cm, and a width of 50–80 cm. Table lengths should be enough to accommodate
screen: 60–65 cm is enough for an LCD monitor, and a little more for about a CRT — about 80 cm. Working at a spacious table is certainly more convenient, but it will take up more space in the room. When choosing it, pay attention also to the width of the retractable keyboard stand: it should provide the convenience of typing and manipulating the mouse.
The depth of the tabletop of the computer table should be such that the monitor is located a meter away from the eyes and at the same time there is free space where you can put documents, writing accessories, etc. This value varies between 60–90 cm. Worktops with a semicircular cut inside, give even more useful area for work, and, therefore, more comfortable.
Computer tables manufactured by modern industry have a standard height of 75–80 cm. In some models, the height is adjustable.
A proper landing at a computer table is feet that are firmly standing on the floor, knees bent at right angles and a tabletop at the level of the solar plexus. Here is a general formula for calculating the appropriate height of a computer table:
Human height × 75 cm (standard table height) / average human height (175 cm for men, 162 cm for women).
Choosing a table, for example, for a man with a height of 180 cm, we get the following height:
(180 cm × 75 cm) / 175 cm = 77 cm.
Important: in some models of computer tables, it is possible to change not only the height, but also the angle of inclination of the work surface. The most convenient angles are 15 degrees for writing lessons and 20 degrees for drawing.
The remaining dimensions of computer tables:
The standard height from the countertop to the sliding keyboard shelf is 8-12 cm;
The thickness of the open shelves made of chipboard is longer than 70 cm - a minimum of 36 mm;
The monitor stand usually has a length of approximately 15 cm (12–20 cm);
The thickness of the edge of the table should be at least 2 mm, so as not to come off in the very first days of using the table.
